Engineering and Assurance Services

Encompass Engineering provided engineering and assurance services to Metronet Rail and London Underground for the building of the new 'S' stock tube trains. Based at the supplier, Bombardier's premises in Derby, we worked with them to ensure that London Underground's requirements and standards were adhered to and the trains were built to the quality expected of a new tube stock that is required to last for 40 years.

Infrastructure Testing

We also supported the testing and commissioning activities at the Old Dalby test track in the Leicestershire countryside. The new 'S' stock includes air conditioning and a newly developed intercar through a gangway, to provide more space for passengers and make it easier to move between cars freely. The trains come as a seven or eight-car set and are used on the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith and city and district lines.
